Can't copy text from Mail received email, into TextEdit

I typed text in into Notes on my iPad and sent text to my email on iMac late 2017 running Mojave 10.14.6. I received the email but cannot copy/paste into even TextEdit. How do I copy from Apple Email into another app, please?

I have just tried this and was able to copy/paste to TextEdit, VSCode etc with no problem, I had a small hiccup when pasting into Word, but that was because I pasted white text onto a white background, so the text was not visible.
