starting Airplay?

I'm trying to do Airplay on my MBP 8,1 with OS 10.11.6 (El Capitan). I go to System Preferences/Displays, and I see an "AirPlay display" selector to turn AirPlay on. It won't turn on. Is this trying to tell me that this MBP doesn't have AirPlay? If it does, how do I turn it on?

-What are you trying to AirPlay - music, video, screen sharing?
-What AirPlay device are you trying to send it to - an tv, speaker(s), smart TV, etc.?

I'm trying to AirPlay to a smart TV. But that's the answer, that I need Mojave 10.14.5 or later. A bit strange that El Capitan is even asking whether I want to turn on AirPlay if it's not going to let me do it.

Ahhh...OK.

Yes, it will still show AirPlay, but not screen share. It should AirPlay audio from iTunes however, as I used to do that to an old AirPort Express and an tv.
