How bad is this? The laptop is still working, but I'm wondering whether or not these wires that seem to come out of it could cause a serious problem.

I agree...the case does look bent. They seem to be along the right rear bottom edge of the case, just to the right of where the display hinge is. But, the "wires" you are showing in the photos look like aluminum edge "hairs" to me, caused by the case being rubbed along something harder than the aluminum. They should be able to be removed without further damage to the aluminum, and shouldn't affect the working order of the Mac. Be careful, as they can be very sharp and stick into your skin easily. I would be more worried about the bent casing and what problems that could cause down the road.
