I cancelled my Microsoft Office subscription and bought a stand-alone version. But when I run Word or Excel, it thinks I have an expired subscription version. I downloaded it again from Microsoft and installed it again, but no change. I know the new product key. What should I do to disconnect it from the old version?

I suggest using an application cleaner program (I use AppCleaner.app, free and flawless as far as personal experience goes) to purge the installation of BOTH versions, and then reinstalling the stand-alone version. If the problem returns, I would think that Microsoft have what is called “product support.” I know I shouldn’t poke fun at them, and I am an Office 365 subscriber myself, even though I don’t use their products except, maybe, for their browser, MS Edge… sometimes. I maintain Office 365 only because some clients still insist on sending me their files for me to work with in Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

I deleted all of my Office apps using TrashMe, then installed it again. It still thinks I have the Office subscription. I wonder if this is related to my using GoDaddy for my email which uses Microsoft Exchange.

Not familiar with TrashMe, but you can give it another go by booting into Safe Mode and deleting Office once more. This will prevent system extensions and other daemons from running during the operation. As I mentioned, AppCleaner is my choice for this task, and it should not burden you any since it’s free and has received much more positive reviews than TrashMe.

I suspect my problem was when I uninstalled, I didn't see OneDrive. I read through https://support.microsoft.com/en-us...-for-mac-eefa1199-5b58-43af-8a3d-b73dc1a8cae3 and noticed OneDrive was part of Office to be uninstalled. It listed some library files I didn't have, assumably because I never ran their associated programs (I only use Excel & Word)

Then I ran this tool to remove my license code: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=849815 .

Then I went to https://account.microsoft.com/services . Microsoft's page showed that I owned the stand-alone version and was no longer subscribed to the other version. I downloaded and installed it and didn't even need to enter my license code.

Well, congratulations! Good job!

My Office 365 list is as follows: AutoUpDate, Excel, OneNote, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, MS Edge, and OneDrive. Did you get rid of all of them?

Every one that existed. They existed in programs, but not all in the library files.

Although I suspect I many not have needed to delete them, but just needed to run that program to get rid of my license code.
