New Mac user

I have a new IMac computer, and new to Mac's. My question is when I down load a third party software like Skype and Firefox there is icon disk on desktop when I down load and install new software. How can I relocate or remove without deleting program?

When your 3rd Party Software download is complete and you double-click it ... the disc icon then appears on your Desktop and a window opens to reveal the program to be installed ... you drag the app to your app folder to install the app then just drag the disc icon to your Trash to unmount it.

Then navigate to your Application folder (Shift + Command + A), look for the new app and launch it.

Then look in your Dock for it's icon. Just Right-Click the icon and select:

Options ~> Keep In Dock.​
