AOL wants us to "update our mailboxes", by removing the AOL account, and then reselecting it. Mac Help says if I remove the account all my emails will "no longer be available on my Mac", but should still be available on the mail server (AOL). But I have 20,000 emails on my Mac, while AOL has only 3000. Do I lose the other 17,000 ?

Hello,

If the emails are mailboxes in the On My Mac section of the Mail application, then they are stpored on your Mac and shouldn't be deleted by removing the AOL account. Of course, it is always recommended to have a current Time Machine or other backup of your data before performing actions like this, just in case.
