My mac won't sleep. It wakes up a few seconds after clicking sleep. This will go on for several minutes until it finally gets tired and drops off.

Ned more information:

1. What exact Mac model do you have?

2. What exact Mac OS are you running?

3. Have you ever done any disk cleanup/maintenance/repairs, from a software perspective?

4. This is critical: are you making backups to an external device? If you (hopefully) are, what software do you use for that task?

5. Is this a recent issue? If it is, did you do any software installations around the time it started happening?

1. 21.5 inch late 2012
2. Mojave 10.14.2 installed recently as recommended by Apple Help to fix another problem. Since then it takes almost a minute for my mac to open.
3. No. Use is limited to email, browsing, and operation of one spreadsheet which is printed monthly and easily re-built.
4.No
5.Started a few weeks after the upgrade (?) to Mojave.
Thanks for your interest.

What Mac OS were you using prior to Mojave? And when you upgraded to Mojave, was the upgrade done "in place", ie, you just let Mojave basically over write what Mac OS was there before?

Given that this started happening after the Mojave upgrade, then there was/is an issue associated with that upgrade.

What third party (ie, non-Apple) software are you using? If you are using any, maybe some (or all) of them need an upgrade also.

No backup is bad. You are definitely asking for trouble without a backup.

1. Sierra
2.Word and Excel for Apple
3. Acceptable risk given simple usage and lack of stored data.
4. Since last night it has been sleeping as normal. ??

So, you "skipped" High Sierra with the upgrade. Again I ask, did you upgrade "in place"?

Also, with Word and Excel, are they part of Office 2011, or Office 2016? And for either of those, do you have the latest versions?

As for "acceptable risk", that is still risky. Similarly with lack of backups, which is even more serious. It's important to remember that taking care of Macs is like taking care of automobiles. If one lets maintenance "slide" on a car, it will definitely lead to more serious problems. Same with Macs.

For it now "being normal", hopefully it remains that way.
