Install problems with MySQL 5.x on OS X

Have you installed MySQL 5.x on OS X? When I upgraded to that, I lost the ability to start MySQL from the preference panel. It complains that I don't have permission to access one of the directories. I removed all mysql and reinstalled and still have same problem. Checked all permissions I can find, but can't find anything wrong. Followed some instructions about resetting owners, and permissions, but to no avail. Can start from command line, but not from pref panel or by the automatic startup that should work.

Any suggestions?

Which version of OS X? Where did you get MySQL 5?

Can you let us know which directories is MySQL complaining about ?
