Hi, having a nightmare with autocorrect making my typing look as if I am drunk at the keyboard..
I had my left hand sewn back together after a powers accident, and so I am very careful what I type and occasionally my fingers hit the wrong keys.. that is not a problem,
the problem is dam autocorrect...
any clues.
Regards, Sandy
Sandy, not knowing the version of macOS you’re running, I will refer to the settings in macOS Monterey. There is no single universal way to set up autocorrect so let’s start with Apple apps. For the iWork suite (Pages, Numbers, Keynote), you need to have the app running. Go to the app’s Preferences and click on Auto Correction. You can then check or uncheck “Correct spelling automatically” as well as the other features.
To set it up “universally,” go to System Preferences -> Keyboard -> Text. When you activate or deactivate autocorrect, it will apply to the rest of the Apple apps, such as Mail, Notes, Messages, etc.
For non-Apple apps, you will have to do it in each app’s preferences, although some third-party apps might utilize the settings in System Preferences. Your mileage may vary. Good luck, and sorry about your accident.

… by the way, System Preferences has radically changed in macOS Ventura. It will take some relearning. Fortunately, the search field is at the very top of the sidebar, making it easy to navigate to the item you’re looking for. I’m still playing with it on my test Mac, and if nothing untoward happens, I might eventually decide to try it on my Mac Studio. The update definitely updates the Mac’s firmware, so it is a concern. But it seems very stable for a very early beta version.
