Help please

This may seem minor but it's annoying me.
All of a sudden my G5 Mac has started highlighting selected items with a thick black box around them (files on desktop, items selected in a programme — everything!!!)
I've tried everything but just can't get rid of it.
Anyone have any ideas?

This sounds like a Unversal Access setting. Is it speaking the file too? Try pressing Apple + F5 and see if it turns it off.

That did the trick. Yes it was speaking the file too except I had the volume down so I couldn't hear it.
