Hard drive external

I have a external hard drive avalible to me. I have a power mac G4 that has two 400-Mbps firewire ports. The box says Mac users need to have Windows-certified firewire IEEE 1394a port or USB 2.0 Can I use this external drive?

You should be fine with a good quality FireWire 400 cable. Only a few drives had some issues years back with certain computers with a previous version of the FireWire Oxford chipset (controller chip).
