External Hard Drive Issue

I purchased a Seagate 4TB external hard drive just over a year ago then two days ago I decided to restore my iMac back to factory setting but when I connected the HDD to back up my files it wouldn't work. Fortunately had another HDD to do the job.

I connected it to my MacBook Air and it worked perfectly. After I had completed the restore it still wouldn't work.

Can anyone advise me as to why my iMac is not recognising the HDD please as there is clearly nothing wrong with it?

Have you tried another USB port on the iMac to see if it works? Have you tried something else: eg, mouse, keyboard, in the first USB port to see if they work?

Well would you believe it. I plugged it in and forgot to press the switch on the extension lead.

What an idiot.
