hi

first post so please excuse if this isnt done right.

I have a G4 400 that I just pulled out of the closet for the kids, it was working fine when i stopped using it but now…

I tried a fresh install of osx 10.4 but it boots into a blue screen only. I installed it a few times just hoping beyond hope. I then when and installed OS9, boy those disks were dusty, at first it wouldnt boot but then i turned off extensions and it did boot up. I then went yay, and tried another install of osx no luck

I have run hardware check etc all fine

when osx is being installed it goes all the way through, but when it never gets to the second install disk (had to ask apple for the CDs as my mac wasnt a DVD enabled at the time)

Any hints

Hi there and welcome !

Are there any scratches on the disks ?

Are there any peripherals plugged into it ?

Are there any cards internally ? SCSI etc ?

Have you had OS X running on this Mac before ?

regards

Not that i can see and i thought of this but when os9 would only load with extensions turned off. It does have a relatively brand new 120GB hard drive in it but I have tried booting off others and it still wont work

you may have to boot from 9 or classic and update your firmware. Then install the OS. AGP's for sure need updating. Check "about this mac" for your firmware version. I think latest is 4.2.8 for the G4's. Go to Apple/Support/discussions and search OSX or g4 using g4'a

This links to various models and possible firmware updates

this will show you which g4 you have.

this may help if not back search the thread.

I hope this helps
