Ethernet Adaptor for MacBook Air Mid 2011

I have an ethernet usb adaptor that came with an Asus computer and I am trying to use it to hook up my MacBook Air to my home ethernet, but it is not working.
Is this because it is not compatible or I need a driver or possibly something else.
Network diagnostics is indicating that the Ethernet connection Failed.

Thanks for any help.

No, you'll need the Apple one, given that there is power on all the modern ports it's never a good idea to go plugging non Apple adapters into your Mac.
