Does anyone know how to edit the hostconfig file??? I tried using terminal to open /etc/hostconfig but I get the error message "Permission denied".
Although I am logged in as admin, I can't seem to change the permission either. Essentially I am trying to change the Automount setting.

Mac OS X 10.4.7
Machine Name: iMac
Machine Model: iMac5,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2 GHz

Can someone tell me if this file is editable? And if so how can I do it?

Thank you in advance.

this may help

You can edit it using Terminal. Open terminal, type "cd /etc" (without the quotes), then type "sudo pico hostconfig" (without the quotes).
Don't do it by booting into single user mode.

Make your edits and hit control-x, type "y" when it asks you to save changes, and hit return when it asks for the filename (it'll have "hostconfig" already there as the filename).
