"disc burner or software not found" message.

All of a sudden when attempting to burn a playlist in I Tunes with my external ASUS I receive a message stating the above. I have tried shutting down and restarting my Mac but no luck.Does anyone have any advise? Truly appreciated. Samuel.

recheck the cables.

In System Profile check that the Mac is seeing the drive.

computer is not seeing the device yet when I insert a disc I get the usual "you inserted a blank disc " massage, but as soon as I proceed to the "burn playlist to disc" the "Not found" message comes up and the burner turns off until I unplug then replug it in when it again repeats the pattern. I am beginning to assume that the burner is shot. Thank you very much for the reply.
