Corrupted Files

Mac: iBook G4

Summary:

1) Important files corrupted mysteriously while on standby

2) "Genius" bar stated "this cannot be fixed"

3) "The file may be corrupt, in use, or of a type not recognized by PowerPoint"

4) Is recovery possible?

Problem:

I left a PowerPoint file open. I left my computer on standby for three days. I returned (out of town) to find it completely dead.

Upon charging and turning the computer back on, I found I was unable to open the file mentioned above, and received the error message bolded in the summary.

Some of the original text can be found in the file which, when opened, consists mostly of random ascii characters.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

The file had been saved previously. It was on the computer for a little over a week and was working as intended (could open, save & edit file).

It was not new. Week or so old .ppt file.

Thanks for the help.
