Connecting a Canon Pixma IP 4000 to an iMac

How do I connect my Canon Pixma IP 4000 printer, which has a regular printer cord, to my iMac (the Mac has OSX Leopard 10.5) which only has USB ports?

I purchased an adapter printer cord which goes from MacBook usb to the HP parallel printer port (to connect my MacBook to a HP 6P Laser printer). It worked once I figured out how to access the correct printer driver for the HP 6P.

I have that printer and I use a male USB A to male mini USB B. The USB B connector is for the printer. I can't recall if I had to buy that cable aftermarket or if it came with the printer.
