My desk top with Yosemite version 10.10.3 just quit 7 times this week. What is wrong? It comes back on with the touch of a key, but I can't keep it on. What do I do? Please don't suggest throwing it out the window. I've already thought of that.

First, it would be good to know what specific Mac model you have.

Secondly, if you throw it out the window, what would you replace it with? Another Mac desktop?

Third, don't think that resetting the PRAM or the SMC will help much, but if you want to try that, here are links taht explain how and why:

Resetting the SMC: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295

Resetting the PRAM: https://support.apple.com/kb/PH18761?locale=en_US

The other thing you can try is to boot to the Recovery Partition on your machine by holding down the Command and R keys while your machine is starting up. It will take some time for the menu to appear, but eventually it will. This link explains what you can do once you get to that menu:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201314

What you need to do is select Disk Utility form that menu, and 1) Verify and Repair the disk at the Volume, ie, top level, and 2) Verify and Repair Permissions, and Verify and Repair the disk at the partition, ie, next level.

iMac Processor 1.4 GHz Intl Core i5.
I'm afraid I don't even know what the SMC and PRAM are or why I might want to reset them. I'm a writer and angry about losing text.
Thanks for trying to help.
I wanted to add and ask if quitting for no apparent reason is a problem with Yosemite. I've only had the problem since I installed that.

Don't understand what you mean by "if quitting for no apparent reason is a problem with Yosemite". That seems to imply you are quitting an application, so one would think it would not be a problem.

While resetting the PRAM and/or SMC is, most likely, not applicable, you do need to follow what I said about booting to the Recovery Partition. Given that I suspect you do not have a more robust disk maintenance/repair program like Disk Warrior or Tech Tool Pro, Disk Utility is your only choice.
