CD drive doesn't work

My CD drive doesn't work. I can't play music or informational CDs. The drive will not read the CD. Instead, it "thinks" for 10-15 seconds, then ejects it.
The DVD drive works and I can watch movies on it, but not so for CDs. It has been like this almost since I purchased it. I wonder if it is an iTunes situation because I was able to play CDs before I started downloading music from iTunes.
