Hi, newbie here hoping someone can help?

Using Catalina without issue for a little while.
Keyboard suddenly changed language yesterday, tried to reinstall from safe mode recovery which fails at 95%, tried twice.
Now on restart, I have a black screen with a hard drive image and drop down menu for wifi networks which I have never seen before

I select my network and proceed but both internet browsers (Chrome & Safari) download pages and won't open them?

Any advice VERY welcome!

Hello and welcome.

Sounds like maybe they keyboard is malfunctioning, as that could cause the Startup Manager in your photo to appear. When starting up, if you hold the Option key, it will go to the Startup Manager to allow you to start from a different drive with OS X/macOS installed. The Choose Network... drop-down is there so you can choose to startup your Mac from a network volume.

Try not selecting a network, then click on the Macintosh HD and let us know what happens.
