Can dead battery completely kill a G4 400?

Came back from a few lovely weeks away to find my aging G4 400 PCI stone dead. It was powered down and the surge strip was powered off while I was away.

Symptoms: absolutely nothing happens (no drive noise, no lights, no startup chime, etc). Surge strip is fine--other thing work and swapping outlets is no help.

I tried: swapping cords, disconnecting all peripherals from G4, resetting PMU, incantations

Question: Could a dead battery, in theory, render a G4 THIS dead? Is it worth buying a battery to see or is this a dead power supply?

Thanks.

Thanks.

I had reset the CUDA already. This is one dead machine. I am going to replace the battery just in case--cheaper than a power supply anyway. I have a feeling that this is too dead to be fixed so easily... but .... worth a try.

Update: Battery replacement did nothing. Still dead. I have no more units to parasitize so I suspect it's the power supply and therefore the scrapheap!

Sell it "As Is" on eBay ... there's a real market for parts out there, just 'cos the PS is possibly cactus doesn't mean there isn't someone out there who wants your G4's bits'n'pieces ...
