Can anyone interpret this? 2008 Pro Tower running El Capitan

After removing my riser cards, GPU, sled drives and front fan to clean dust I then checked for any updates and installed the most recent update for iTunes. Shortly there after, I kept getting screen hangups with various amounts of pixelated distortions. After several restarts (resulting in the white apple logo screens status bar only moving halfway across and freezing) I started getting two red bars on led's 3 & 4 of the Diag led strip. I removed risers and eliminated DIMMS until I found 2 8gb DIMMS ( one in each DIMM #1 slot on each riser) that stopped the red lights from coming on and eventually booting up. I could boot up yesterday but it would run for a few minutes and freeze up again with the pixelated issue again. On first book up today I received the script seen below. However i'm running with several programs open at the moment for almost an hour with no glitches. I'm thinking a GPU issue -GEFORCE 8800 GT- or logic board??? Any thoughts greatly appreciated. This system is 11 years old now and I really would rather spend any money on getting a new model.

I also want to add that my iPhone Xr's iTunes was also acting weird at the same time...It would play songs out of the internal speaker but out of the lightning bolt HP adapter it sounded very compressed and lacked a wide spectrum of mid range frequencies. It mysteriously started playing fine again after 6-8 hours...

Hello and welcome.

A few thoughts:

Cleaning/Removing Components
-It's not advised to remove anything except the drive sleds, RAM cards and the graphics card. Internal components can easily be damaged by physical handing, and anti-static precautions aren't followed in a static-controlled workspace.
-Maybe another component was unseated partially during your cleaning process?
-Did you remove the CPUs from their sockets by any chance?

RAM
-Memory module for a single pair is one in Slot 1 on the upper card and one in Slot 1 on the lower card
-If you have two pairs (4 total), put the two original in Slots 1 and 2 on the upper card, and the new pair in Slots 1 & 2 on the lower card. They are then matched pairs and interleaved properly.

SSD
-Some older Mac Pro models have issues with an SSD installed in Slot 1. You could try moving the OEM Seagate HDD back to Slot 1, and moving your startup SSD to Slot 2, and see if that resolves the kernel panic. But, sometimes that prevents the SSD from being seen as a bootable drive.

Graphics Card
-Have you tried reseating it?
-Did you install it in the original PCI slot it came out of - the bottom slot above the memory cards, Slot 1?
-The graphic distortion/pixelization leans things toward a possible failing graphics card.

Kernel Panics
-Do you still use the Paragon NTFS driver for something?
-Have you tried disabling the Malwarebytes Real-Time Protection?
-Have you tried a Safe Boot?
-Does one of the other drives have OS X that you could startup from to test for a software issue?

We'll see if we can track down the cause,

Thanks for the reply, I've been in Central America the last few weeks with no access to the net. When I came home I tried logging in on a guest user account and everything ran fine for about 45 minutes and then the same issues developed. I'm fairly kmowledgeable on PC architecture and have become somewhat so on the Mac pro, my last Mac before this one was a Power Mac 7100 circa '95 which I'm sure had a form factor vastly diffrent than the MPT. I had already done all that you suggested before posting bar removing Malware bites (which I'm not sure if I even need anyway), the NTFS driver was software for a Seagate 1TB usb drive for storage and moving .Mp3's from a HP to the Mac but is not being used. I did not unseat the CPU because I had no heat conductive adhesive to put back in place if I did. I did remove the clip from top the heatsink and it just slid right off; the adhesive was completely dust, did not unseat the processor thgough. I did have a cd copy of the OS but cannot find it anywhere. As of right now the machine will only try to boot up and the progress bar gets about halfway and stops a few minutes later if left on it retarts itself and continues that same cycle. I've tried rebooting in safe/recovery mode to no avail. I'm almost possitive the main issue is the GPU so I have someone who's going to drop by in the next few days with a comp card to see if it is indeed. Thanks so much again for helping and I'll be sure to let you know the resolution. Regards.

No worries...hope it was a nice trip.

Definitely let us know if the graphics card fixes the issue. I would guess it won't.

Which exact clip are you referring to on the heatsink?

I should have been more clear before when I mentioned unseating the CPUs. I should have added removing the heatsinks as well. It definitely sounds like the heatsink sliding off the CPU (if that is what happened when you removed the clip), the thermal paste being totally dried out, and not having new thermal paste reapplied could be the culprit here. If there is no thermal paste, the CPU isn't "connected" to the heatsink, thus has no way to dissipate heat. As it heats up during use, it will go into thermal protection mode and kernel panic.

Check this guide out, and let me know which step refers to the clip and the heatsink issue you were explaining:

Thank you , it was nice...Okay, then that wasnt the cpu that I removed the heatsink clip from. In step 35 it's the black heatsink above the real HS's. I knew those were the heatsinks , I just didn't think it through. It's been over a decade since I last removed one and on Win based forms they all look like that. The guy with the GPU never did stop by so I guess I'm on my own now, I appreciate your help! Still getting the same hangup, LB LED #3 is on ~ CPU 2 error.

OK, thanks.

Not sure what the heatsink is - probably a controller chip for the wireless cards or memory controller?

You could try the following:
SMC Reset
-Power off the Mac Pro
-Unplug everything including the power cord
-Wait 15 seconds
-Plug everything back in, and wait 5 seconds
-Power on

System Reset Button
-Press the SYS_RST switch located in the upper right-hand corner of the logic board, near the fourth drive bay
-Press this when the Mac Pro is powered on - it will restart the system, but be careful not to touch anything else

I wouldn't mess with the CPU heatsinks/CPUs, as they can be damaged fairly easily. It may have to go into the shop to diagnose further.
