Hello,

For anyone using Parallels and Bootcamp on same pc:

I presently have Parallels, and works well.
But, there is one program that will not run under Parallels, but
supposedly will under Bootcamp.

Are there any problems in having both on pc, and my using
Bootcamp for this problem program ?

Any gotchas, problems, etc. having both on my iMac ?

And, will my single, paid for and installed, copy of Windows10 work for either ?
Would hate to have to buy another copy.

Thanks,
Bob

Hello,

There aren't any issues having both setup on your Mac. There is a way to setup Boot Camp, then use that install of Windows in Parallels as well: Can I run my Boot Camp partition with Parallels Desktop? I am not sure that still works, but you could contact Parallels to verify. I believe you would only need one Windows license for that scenario.

-Which version of OS X/macOS?
-Which version of Parallels?
-What is the application that doesn't run under Parallels?

Hi,

Thanks for help, as always much appreciated.

Running High Sierra vers. 10.13.5
Parallels is: Parallels Desktop 13

Program that won't run, under a Parallels created Windows!0 partition, is a shortwave
SDR radio control program for the WinRadio Excalibur radio. This was confirmed also by the developer
who said that it will run under Bootcamp, though.

If I go the Bootcamp route to be able to run this program, I would want the Bootcamp Windows10
to be totally independent of anything to do with Parallels.

I do not want to run it "under" Parallels, or vice versa.

Regards,
Bob

Thanks for thew additional information.

Not sure why WiNRADiO Excalibur software won't run under Parallels, since Boot Camp is really a very basic form of a virtual machine as well.

If you want to keep the Boot Camp and Parallels installs of Windows totally separate, you will need two copies/licenses for Windows 10.
