So I recently purchased an imac from 2008 off ebay.
In 2 months the hard drive has taken a dump.
when I boot... the flashing folder icon appears
I have held down the option key, and I get a grey screen with a cursor.

I took the whole thing apart, checked the cables and connections. Replaced the hard drive cable because I had one laying around. Still have the same issue.

Ive also tried plugging in / unplugging the keyboard, mouse, etc with no luck.

I have very little cash-flow at the moment, so purchasing a new hard drive is temporarily out of the question.

Now I have an old G4 downstairs. Problem with that machine is my power supply went out on it about a year ago, so its sitting, collecting dust.
Could I replace the hard drive in my 2008 imac with the one in my G4? would it boot?
it looks to be about the same size in terms of fitting. Or is this venture just a waste of time?

Thanks in advance for the replies!
