assign symbol to a key on keyboard

I make chord charts for a ukulele group i want to assign a "sharp" symbol to a designated key on the keyboard to assist me in doing this, is this possible. I have found the character palette for the keyboard but there is no symbol i could use. I have photo shop so i can create a symbol but how to go about putting it on the keyboard.
