I take a lot of photos, paint stuff and like to keep a record.

Since I graduated to Mac from MSoft, I find that I send a few pics to a brand new disc and then when I try to add more the next day or week it tells me I can't.

How do I keep a disc open so I can add to it when i want?

I know this is probably a really stupid question!

Use Disk Utility to set up a CD-R disc to accept more disk images/files/whatever after it is initially burned, then, you can burn a disk image now and add to the disc later until there is no more room on the disc. In Disk Utility, create a disk image that contains the files you want to burn to the disc.
The files must be from a volume with a Mac OS Extended disk format. To check a volume's disk format, select the disk in Disk Utility and look at the information at the bottom of the Disk Utility window.

Select the disk image in the Disk Utility list and choose Images-> Burn.
Select the "Leave disc appendable" checkbox. If you don't see this option, click the triangle in the top-right corner.
Insert a blank recordable disc in the drive, and click Burn.
