I am using a Mac desktop OS X 10.9.5 - 3.2 GHz processor Core i3; 4 GB 1333 Mhz memory
When I use latest Firefox browser and try to do a search, I get error msg
When I use existing bookmarks, Firefox works fine
I also have similar problems with Safari
My internet provider is Verizon FIOS
I have tried MacKeeper which is supposed to fix this problem but it does not
I have tried several other posted fixes without success
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hello and welcome.

-Are the time and date correct on your Mac?
-Does it happen with the iTunes or App Stores?
-Do Safari bookmarks work, like with Firefox?
-Does it happen with all websites, or specific ones?
-Is the Internet connection with the issue at home, or at school/work?

Date & Time are correct
It does not happen with iTunes or App Stores
It happens with all websites
I only use browser at home - I am retired - no more school or work
Safari bookmarks all work
I do use iPhone 5c with no problems

I currently have a Bing bookmark on Firefox which I can search using but cannot
search directly from the browser

Have you changed any of the DNS settings or is there a proxy in the Network preference pane?

I went to the preferences section and changed to "No Proxy"
Now I can search using the norton search option on the firefox browser but I still get the error msg
when I use the search box in the upper right hand corner of the firefox browser
Also Safari seems to work fine now
So I guess I will just use the norton option when I search
Thanks for your help,
Bill

Ahhh...Norton Search Toolbar. That may have caused the issues to begin with. Some of the toolbar add-ins cause issues like this, because they filter out what they deem "risky" websites.

You could always try uninstalling the Norton toolbar and see if all goes back to normal.

Hello and welcome.

Normally, that is a temporary problem, and will resolve itself.

Are you still experiencing the issue?
