I am a complete novice when it comes to Mac's and my girlfriend has a 2019 27" iMac that has worked just fine until recently. Over the last few weeks, it will sporadically restart, and then upon recovering it will display the below error message. I have tried the Apple recovery tool and no issues were found. Any help or direction would be much appreciated!

Hello and welcome.

That is an iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2019) running macOS 11.2.3 Big Sur, correct?

First thing I would try would be: Use Apple Diagnostics to test your Mac

The VTDecoderXPCService listed in the kernel panic log is related to playing video content. Does this happen when running Safari/Chrome/Firefox mainly?

Thank you! I ran the diagnostics and it came back displaying no issues. I apologize, yes it is running Big Sur and has the most recent updates. Chrome is used pretty much exclusively. On my PC, i would dig into making sure the drivers were all up to date, but it seems Mac has solved that with their OS updates. Most of what i have read is that it might be a bad video card, and I wanted to make sure i cover all my bases before I take it in and try to get a new one installed.

Thank you again!

No worries.

If it happens a lot on Chrome, you could try disabling Chrome > Preferences > System > Use hardware acceleration when available. Also, try disabling/uninstalling and Chrome Extensions.

Yes, it could be the beginning of a hardware failure of the graphics chip/logic board. It could also be a thermal issue, if the vents are blocked by dust - check above the power cord slot on the back, behind the foot.
