Helpful Start-up Key Combinations

Hold down whilst starting up !


  • Shift = Safe Mode
  • Command + S = Single User Mode
  • Command + V = Verbose Mode (watch the Start-up status)
  • Option = Volume List (A.K.A Startup Disk)
  • Command + Option + P + R = Reset PRAM
  • Command + Option + O + F = Start into Open Firmware

Here are the rest...

? C = Start from Bootable CD
? T = Start in FireWire Target Disk Mode (for Macs that support it)
? R = Force PowerBook screen reset
? X = Force OS X Startup
? Option + Command + Shift + Delete = Bypass primary startup disk and seek a different startup disk - CD or external
? N = NetBoot
? Hold Mouse Button Down = Open CD Tray

From memory didn't the 'Holding down the Mouse button also eject the floppy disk'

when the Mac's came with them, that is !

Before Danster's Time ! LOL


...and then there was always the trusty paper clip ! Not really a key though !
