Trouble getting messages from Mac to iphone

Got a new iPhone 5c after giving my 6 to my daughter. Before I gave it to her (and before she transferred all of her info onto the 6) I backed up my 6. When I connected the 5 to iTunes, my plan was to restore from a previous backup but the backup I had done an hour earlier wasn't there. I was still able to rescue my contacts but no text messages. All of my messages are on my MacBook Air but I have no idea how to transfer the messages from my Mac to my phone. I thought I was pretty tech savvy but this has me stumped.

I'm not sure. Sorry! It's just so frustrating to see all of my messages on my computer and not be able to see them on my phone!

-Did you click on the link I provided? It has some steps you can take to try and resolve the issue.
-Do you have an Apple Store near you? It may be easier to have them look at the iPhones in person.
