Transfer from old to new mac

Greetings all

I am trying to help my supervisor transfer her files/programs from old mac (867Mhz PowerPC G4 256MB running OS 10.2.8) to a new iMac we just purchased

I know when you start up the new computer it gives the options to transfer from old computer, which i have done before on a 10.4 mac but never have done on something older--is it possible? obviously it will have to be done with USB rather than firewire but will everything on her old computer be maintained--particularly her lotus notes email acct and messages ?
