transfer data from old basic iPad to iPad air 2

Hi, i have the new iPad air 4, as a result my wife is to have my iPad air 2
She has a much older basic iPad IOS 10.3.3 and not does not have the ability to use the excellent Apple cosy up transfer of data.
I have now factory reset my old IPAD air 2 and begun the process of setting up for my wife
I decided to set her up anew. i now find every time i try to use her existing ID etc i am told it is already taken and so i have not got very far at all with the new set up
So far nothing has been removed from the older ipad
She has a lot of emails, photos and contacts stored on it but little else on it.
she has her own iCloud accout for e mail

Any help would be much appreciated please

Hello,

It sounds like you may be trying create a new Apple ID, instead of signing in with a current Apple ID during setup. Have you tried going through all setup screens, and choosing Set up later in Settings for her Apple ID?

Also, do you have a current backup of her iPad in iCloud or on a Mac that you could restore from during setup?
