Time machine backup

I just bought a 4TB Kingston XS2000 SSD backup drive with read/write speeds of 2000MB/sec. It has been trying to back up my MacBook Pro for nearly 30 hrs. What is wrong?

The Kingston XS2000 SSD specs: Speeds up to 2,000MB/s with USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 (Speed may vary due to host hardware, software and usage.)
  • Which exact model is the MacBook Pro?
  • Which version of OS X/macOS?
  • Did you format it for Mac?
  • What USB port is it connected to?
  • How much data on the internal drive is it backing up to Time Machine?
There are a lot of factors that can affect the backup speed.
