Hi,
I'm having major issues with my mac.
Every single movement, click or typing I make renders the spinning wheel of death and my mac is then unresponsive for about 10 minutes. Click again, same thing happens. This means I can't do ANYTHING. I can't even install updates because it crashes and times out.

I've tried looking at activity moniter but it doesn't exist within my computer?! I've repaired disks and it hasn't said there were any issues. I've obviously restarted multiple times. I'm currently in safe mode trying to see what I can do but it even crashes in safe mode.

Is there anything I can do?

It would be helpful if you let us know the following:

1. What exact Mac model do you have?

2. What Mac OS are you using?

3. Are you making backups to an external device?

4. Do you happen to have a more robust dis maintenance/repair program like TechTool Pro or Disk Warrior?

5. How much free space is on your hard drive?

1. iMac 27inch (Late 2009) | Processor 3.06 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo | 12GB Memory | ATI Radeon HD
2. OS X Yosemite version 10.10.5
3. Connected to work server via Ethernet which makes automatic back ups.
4. Not that I know of so I'd assume not.
5. Not even a sixth of it is full. Everything is saved remotely to server so there is barely anything except apps on the mac.

OK, thanks for the info.

Do you know what "kind" of backups are being made, ie, through Time Machine?

How did you repair your internal drive? If you used Disk Utility, did you boot it remotely? If not, you can do that by booting to the (hidden) Recovery HD partition, and run Disk Utility from there. This links describes how to boot to that partition, and what it contains:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201314

Finally, is the original HDD that came with the machine still inside it?

is this a work computer?
is there anything you can think of that you may have done prior to this issue, that could be important?
is there another user account you can log into to see if this issue is system wide?
about activity monitor, hit Command+Spacebar to bring up Spotlight, type “Activity Monitor” and hit the Return key.
