When I try to log in to my Hotmail account (using my Safari browser), I get this message........

""Your Skype account is now a Microsoft account
You can now use your Skype account patcolebourn to sign in to any Microsoft app or service such as Office and Xbox.
We'll just need to update your account with an email address. That will help you recover your account easily if you forget your password or your account ever gets compromised"". Learn more

Does this sound right ?

I don't want to give any details, in case it's a "suspect message" ?

What has my SKYPE account, to do with Hotmail ?

Also.....if I use another service provider, like Firefox, my Hotmail account comes up like it always used to do, with no problems !

Has anyone else experienced this ?

I need some advise if possible please.

What Mac OS are you using? Not that it should make a difference, I believe, but useful information anyway.

I use Google Chrome, and I am not getting such a message (my OS is the latest version of Sierra, 10.12.3). I also occasionally use Opera, and again no such issues.

Microsoft now owns Skype so that's why you were notified when you logged into your Outlook email account. If you are not a Skype user then just ignore the message.

Microsoft product users, meanwhile, will start to see Skype integrated into services such as Outlook, Windows Live Essentials, and Xbox Live. Skype also could be pre-installed with Windows on the desktop of new PCs, according to analysts.

Honestone.......I have OS X Yosemite 10. 10. 5

Spawn Dooley......I can't access my Hotmail at all when using Safari. It won't let me past this message ! When I use Firefox, I can access Hotmail as usual, with no message coming on the screen.

I'm a senior citizen, female (an old codger) and not totally "smart" when it comes to "out of the norm" things on my computer, but absolutely love my MAC.

I just don't know what to do.....I don't want to give any of my information away.

Do you see this when you go to Hotmail using Safari? BTW I'm not exactly young myself.

I'm wondering if there might have been an option to "Skip" there on that page where you saw the message to update your details?

It is fairly common these days for websites to be asking for extra information as a security measure & to help you if you get locked out of your account there ... it happened to me with Gmail, I got locked out and couldn't get in but I'd given them my mobile number in which case they would text me with a login code if I found myself locked out ...

I usually click on "Skip" or "Ask me later" & am then sent to my account but next time I log in I'm asked again to update my details with either a mobile number or email. If you look in the URL bar, the little window that has the website address in it you should see https://. The s after http means the site is a secure one. You should always check that it is https & not just http when you are on a page where you might be using a credit card or doing banking, that way you know you are on the right website & not a fake one.

That's exactly what I get Spawn Dooley, just as you've posted. There's no option to "skip" though, or "ask later" option.

Maybe it's all legitimate ? Guess I don't have an option......it's do as the page says, or not use my Safari ! I use my Hotmail quite a bit, as my "reserve" email address, so hate not being able to access it without having to use Firefox.

I REALLY appreciate your tip about https........that is SO useful and I thank you very much for that.

Can you post a screenshot of the message you see?

If you aren't sure how to do this just press Shift Command () 4 then place the mouse cursor (which should look like a cross hair) over the safari window, then press the SpaceBar followed by clicking the mouse to take the picture. You can then click the 'upload a file' button when you are writing your post here...

I think your brain is working just fine ... all that's missing is the suspect message. Please remember if there is any personal information there you can use Preview.app to block it out. There are tools in that app for drawing thick lines that can cover over sensitive info that we don't need to see.
