Photo's not sending via iMessage

Hi ..... I am having problems sending photos from my MacBook via iMessage ... it used to be fine but now the recipient just recieves a 'downloading' message but it never actually does download ... any advice greatfully received

A few questions to help us troubleshoot:

-Which exact model Mac?
-Which version of Mac OS X/macOS?
-Do you mean iMessage or Messages?
-Are your photos stored in iPhoto or Photos?
-Are you signed into iCloud and using that to send the messages?
-Are you sending the messages to another iCloud user (blue), or to someone using standard text messaging (green)?
