The past few days I've been getting this strange avatar image in the left upper corner of web pages that I open. It appears there when the page is opened, and after a few seconds it disappears. It's a green target. Does anyone know what this is about? I made a screen shot of it:

Hello,

-Which version of OS X?
-Which version of Safari?

That looks like Snow Leopard 10.6.x and Safari 5.1.x - is that correct? That icon looks like some form of Safari Extension...have you checked in Safari > Preferences > Extensions to see if that icon is listed?

I am using:

MacBook Pro 17" 2.53GHz Core i5 (A1297) Mid 2010 MC024LL/A SKU17697 MC024LL/A GS17697

OSX Version 10.6.8 Safari Version 5.1.10 (6534.59.10)

I don't see that avatar in the extensions selection. The only avatar I see is the Avast avatar.

I've had Avast installed for several years now, and that avatar began to appear just a couple of months ago.

Maybe they changed something in a recent update.

I did a little more research, and it seems to be a Safari extension from Avast. You could try disabling it in Safari > Preferences... > Extensions. That should prevent it from appearing.

Strange...

I selected SAFARI, and then there was SAFARI EXTENSIONS. I selected SAFARI EXTENSIONS, and then waited... and waited... and waited...

Then, a notification appeared that the site could not be opened because it was not responding.

I ran an Avast File Scan for virus' a couple of days ago, and there were 19 files that Avast couldn't scan.
