Software Upgrade

I am running my iMac on OS X 10.12.6. I need to upgrade to High Sierra OS X 10.13 to use a certain application. My iMac is from mid 2010. I have been unable to download and install 10.13. The App store tells me "This copy of the install mac OS High Sierra application is damaged, and can't be used to install macOS."
Is there any way to upgrade to High Sierra?

Note the part about restarting before attempting the reinstall.
