I have older iMac from 2017. It's taking 15 to 20 seconds to open an app. / Safari or anything. Is there a way to speed it up or change something in the hardware to speed it up? Something to download to speed it up? I'm not the most computer savy person but I'll try something from a professional.
Thanks in advance.

Here is the info from my iMac. if you need more information let me know.
iMac 21.5 - inch
Processer 2.3 GHz Dual-Core i5
Memory 8GB 2133 MHz DDR4
Startup Disk Apple HDD
Serial Number C02V855YH7JY

Hello and welcome.

From that serial number, the exact model is iMac (21.5-inch, 2017).

-Which version of macOS are you running?
-How much free space is left?
-Are you running any third-party utilities or antivirus?

OK, thanks.

Which drive - 1 TB (5400-rpm SATA), 1 TB Fusion Drive, or 256+ GB flash storage?

If it is a 5400-rpm mechanical drive, it may be a bit slow, since that is a known issue with the 2.5" notebook-class drives Apple used in those models.

I advise you to upgrade to a SSD or reinstall macOS.
