SOLVED slow slow start up

Hello.
My Mac mini (late 2012) takes about ten minutes to finally show the login screen and then another 5 minutes for all the desktop stuff to appear.
I recently added as much extra Ram that the machine can take but although this helps me when I finally get access to things the startup is still a pain.
I do 'Pram' resets from time to time but not much changes.

Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

Could you change the Hard disk for an SSD?

I suppose it is possible if I knew what an SSD was and why would it make a difference to my existing Mac drive?

SSD = Solid State Drive, they are much quicker that normal rotational Hard Drivess
