Shifting desktop screen

My screen frequently slides across to the right, showing the Dictionary etc (I have to click it back)while I'm emailing or writing a doc..Have I got a Virus?

Hello and welcome.

You don;t have a virus, you are simply seeing Spaces in action. If you navigate to  > System Preferences... > Mission Control and change Dashboard: As Space to As Overlay, that won't happen. Also, review this article to learn/change the default gestures for your trackpad or mouse: OS X El Capitan: Learn trackpad and mouse gestures.

Thank Cory , that was a good tip for the sliding screen.
Re mouse not gliding over emails, I restarted the Computer and now all is OK!!
Should I take the free offer of upgrading to Capitan from my Mac Yosemite?

Glad those issues are sorted.

It depends on which exact model your Mac is, and what your normal usage is, on whether to upgrade or not. Also, it is always recommended to have a Time Machine or other backup of your data.
