Set USB Mic as Mono in System Pref?

I have a very nice Samson USB microphone that was given to me. I'd love to be able to use it for podcasting/screencasting/ustreaming/etc, but it's a mono mic and so when I use it in any apps except garageband or other audio-specific apps, only left-channel is recorded.

I wonder if there's a way to tell the OS itself that the mic is mono, so that it will direct the sound to both channels evenly in the programs I need to use to record.

replacement drivers, background-apps, anything?
