After a strange restart, Safari no longer comes up on the Home Page I set, and when I go to a page I want to st, the preference and button are greyed out... and the search doed not start with my prefered google.

I suspect it has something to do with Mac Clean up Pro, which seems to have installed itself..
regards, Sandy

Here's what you can do:

1. Download and install the excellent freeware program AppCleaner, available from here:

https://freemacsoft.net/appcleaner/

Make sure you download the correct version of it for the Mac OS you are running.

2. After you start it up, find the icon for Mac Clean Up Pro, and drag it onto the "place" within the AppCleaner window. AppCleaner will find just about all files associated with that program, and of course including the application itself. Click on remove, and all those files will be gone,

3. Restart your Mac.

How did that software get onto your machine?

Just thought of something else. However, you will need to have a backup before using the programs I mention below.

Even with AppCleaner doing a good job, there is the possibility that your machine could have malware/adware and/or viruses. So, to help with that, download and run the following 2 programs, in the order indicated:

1. Malwarebytes, available from here:

https://www.malwarebytes.com/mac/

2. ClamXAV, available from here:

https://www.clamxav.com/

The free trial of ClamXAV is for 30 days, but it has full functionality.
