Screen Blackout

In the normal course of using my Macbook, 10,6,8, the screen goes black but the power is still on. It's not asleep either because I can't wake it up. I have to turn it off and reboot.

-Which exact model of MacBook?
-Does it intermittently go on and off if you move the screen back and forth?

It could be a coupe of things causing that - display cable is worn, battery is nearing the end of its life cycle, temperature issue, software issue.

We can go though each of them once we know the full model.

That particular model had the video issue you describe officially acknowledged by Apple. It is definitely a hardware issue. They offered a Quality Program, in which they would repair the issue for no charge. However, that program has officially ended:

MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010) intermittent black screen or loss of video Quality Program has ended

I would take it up with Apple directly, and they can give you the options that are available to you.
