Scrambled icons

I've noticed this on several OS's, most recently ElCap. Via a network connection, I move a file onto the Desktop of another machine, and BOOM! all the icons on the Desktop of that machine are reordered. Mostly plastered onto the right side of the screen. Duuuh? How can this be prevented? If I have my screen organized the way I want, why should moving a single icon onto it mess it all up?

Hello,

You can try changing the Finder Desktop View Options on the destination Mac:

• In Finder Desktop view on the Mac, right-click on the Desktop and choose Show View Options
• Change Stack By and/or Sort By to None or Snap to Grid

See if that resolves it,

I've had those View Options set that way always. Nonetheless, at times, the system just decides to force all my Desktop icons to the right hand side of the screen.

Now, this only happens occasionally, and I haven't worked out exactly when it happens. Very annoying when it does.
