I am trying to delete some of the many items in my memory and I would like someone to tell me what the item on the attached screen shot does. Can I remove it?
In case it was not attached it is titled WindowServer.

Thanks for replying Kaveman, I will leave it be.
I am running OSX 10.6.8, is there a link where I can find a description of what everything listed in my activity monitor does? I have 65 items listed on it and I would like to know if I need them all.
Best regards Derek

to start with see the popup menu beside the search field, change that to My Processes.

The rest belong to OS X and are not your to go quitting.

This is how Unix works, it has lots of processes running and they use little RAM and no CPU when not in use. The RAM may even be paged out to the Harddrive.

There is no one place that lists all the processes, Apps, Drivers and OS X can spawn these anytime. Some of them you force quit will just re-spawn.

This is NOT how you manage OS X memory.
