I have a new imac it seems to be running warmer than my old mac is there a app that i can use to check the temp thanks

Check out the app's help menu. It's quite extensive.

Checkout Coolbook controller. With this you can reduce the core voltage and so the heat. I have gained an extra hour of battery life using it.
