Restarted MacBook Pro and now will not power up

Our MacBook Pro has been working fine. We needed to restart the laptop, and now it will not power up. It starts to power up and shows the Apple as if doing so, but then shuts down after about 5-10 seconds. Any ideas?

Need to know the following:

1. What exact MacBook Pro model do you have?

2. What exact Mac OS are you using?

3. Have you ever done any disk cleanup/maintenance/repairs?

4. Are you making backups to an external device? And if you are, what software do you use for that?
