is there any way to tell exactly what kind of memory my iBook has? i can open it myself and I really want to upgrade the ram.

Hi Princess Ducttape and welcome,
Go to the Apple Menu and look for System Profiler if you have OS 9 and if you have OS X then go to "About This Mac" which should be the 1st option in that same menu.
You will be able to find out about your RAM specs and other stuff. Do you know the model of iBook you have?
